I been waiting for this song to have a proper video. From Brainfeeder recording artist TOKiMONSTA is her stand out track “Darkest (Dim)” from her Creature Dreams EP. Simply beautiful and etheral in content. Love it.

Having been the promient rhythm section for artists like Big KRIT, Freddie Gibbs, Tanya Morgan, Coco, Alice Russell, and Jesse Boykens III among others. REVIEW: SONNYMOON – 2012 EP & SAN JOSE SHOW

I’m late on this review and that’s a shame because Sonnymoon are homies and cherished artists here at Blind. More so, I’m personally late! I been MIA for a minute here on the site. Sorry folks. Trust, it was within good reasons too. Anyway, lets get on with the review. Check it out after the drop.

The 2012 EP is an album of haunting beauty. If their Golden Age LP represents the coming dawn, then this EP is an evening song. The layers of subtle electronic drums and hypnotic vocals from Anna Wise build bright lights in the listeners mind.

The opening track “Near Me” is a longing love song for future lovers. Its gospel is grounded in the tenderness of the lyrics and progressiveness of the beat. The rhythmic pulse of “Goddess” washes over like an ocean enveloping the night sky horizon. And just like feeling the sun on your skin the instrumental track “Morning Person” breaks over your ears in soft, lush droplets until the end as it transforms into a rush of color. “Machinery” finds Anna breaking her words like a clockwork angel as Dane’s production takes you deeper into the core of our relationships with electronics. The last track “Magician” is not so much a swan song to the EP as it is more a “see you next time”. They’re not giving it all away.

With the inclusion of the mndsgn bossa nova remix “Magicans” this EP is a solid offering from this duo on their new label Plug Research. We cannot wait to see what is in store for our friends Sonnymoon, but we know whatever it is, it will be quality.

Any D’Angelo fan who remembers when Brown Sugar was released, considers Voodoo an R&B classic or simply digs his music has had an exciting week. We’ve all pondered whether he’d make a legitimate comeback and finally record some new material for over a decade now. Fortunately, this Europe tour has eliminated doubts and reignited his fan base. He’s back! And not only is there amazing footage of the shows popping up all over the internet, but now we have a full recording of the show for our listening pleasure. It’s a pretty hefty download (and has some folks talking here and there) but it’s worth the wait. I’m streaming a few songs here, but the full tracklisting can be found after the page jump. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I am. It’s like memory lane sprinkled with the future. Shout out to Okayplayer for posting this.

The pair just released a new video for “Morning Person,” and producer Dane Orr really shines on this one. The video has a simplistic elegance to it. HYPNOTIC BRASS BAND – STARFIGHTER

In high school I used to take the CTA Eastbound Blue Line from Racine to Washington to catch the Number 6 bus home every day. Now, for those familiar with the janky ass Chicago Transit Authority and their routes, you might ask “why go two stops past Jackson to catch the number 6?” Two reasons: 1) if I got off at Jackson with the rest of you jerk-offs I’d be one of you jerk-offs standing on a bus in rush hour traffic instead of one of the cool cats actually sat down in a seat and 2) I loved listening to the Hypnotic Brass Band play on the corner of Washington and State. These guys have been killing it for a bajillion years its dope seeing them go from humble street performers selling burned CD’s hand-to-hand (one of the best $5 bucks I’ve ever spent) to an internationally-known and sampled group. I almost felt obligated to post this. So please do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with Hypnotic’s music by listening to and downloading their track Starfighter below. For those fortunate enough to be in LA on the 23rd of this month they’ll be performing at Exchange LA. More details on that after the jump.

When Knx sends me some new music, I usually just listen to it, then whip up a quick post about it (busy, busy, busy). From the album cover, to the samples and the song titles, I can usually just use my insight to find out the tone of a project. My guess this time? A somewhat melancholy, reflective set with an undertone of change or moving forward on something. Today, I decided to ask him what specifically inspired the Ovrstnd LP. His answer? It was inspired by old thoughts. My old house. Remembered melodies. I wasn’t too far off the mark eh? Check out two of my favorite jams from the project, then listen and discover your favorites. It’s definitely lovely to have a full length project to take our time with.
